***Learning Where to Go***

Since it became official yesterday, I thought I would share the great news on here! I'm officially working in a school and I'm loving it.

My routine has become a bit steady, I wake up and get ready and have my coffee on the way to work which is relatively close to my house.

My job is pretty cool. I get to work with the technology in the school and learn how to work it. I help the teachers with their computers and ipads (The students and faculty get their own ipads wahhhhh!) and things like that if they need it. My boss is really great, he's been teaching me how everything works and where everything goes, so I feel like I'm learning a lot every day. I didn't know how much I really loved to do things like this, I guess it's a new part of myself I've rediscovered. I say that because when I was younger I knew how to play around on the computer and I liked knowing how it worked. During my free time I like to play around on the new gadgets I got as perks of the job! I now have an iPad I can discover art programs with! Which leads me to my next point.

I'm officially going to be teaching a digital media class in the afternoons to the boys who are interested! I presented the idea last week and I'm happy it got such good reception! Because of this, I get to do things like research art programs and try things out and request things I may need for the classroom. Since it's my own class I'll also be building the curriculum myself! If it goes really well, in January we might offer it twice a week, once to the younger students and once to the older ones! Our Tech room might be ready in January as well so I'm looking forward to seeing the kinds of things I can do with my students! This is very exciting for me, I've always wanted to run a class or club like this, where I could teach people how to create digital art on the computer! I'm going to be teaching a combination of things, like photo manipulation, digital coloring and sketching! And also, my favorite, combining traditional media with digital media. The class is called Digital Elements and we start on Monday!

As the teachers have been saying, I have many hats at the school! In about a week the kids have gotten to know who I am through the afterschool program I work in, and then it's been word of mouth from there. Sometimes I draw while we're outside and the kids get to request the stuff they would like to see. I have to admit I miss when my students requested things like princesses, ponies, bows and things like that. I work with boys now and they want things like wolves with mohawks XD Which I'm glad to do for them, but let's just say I don't have as much experience with that! I do get the opportunity to sketch sometimes at work when I get some downtime and when I'm not figuring out new programs for my class. I've ordered a tiny sketchbook to bring with me to class because right now I'm doodling in my work notebook and I don't want to mix the two. IT'S BEEN A WEEK I DON'T KNOW WHERE IT IS. I've been playing around with Gimp and some programs on the iPad, I'm finding that Gimp is like... almost exactly like Photoshop, which is great news for me because we use Ubuntu at the school so that means no Photoshop yet, so I have to learn the ins and outs of Gimp. It's not so bad! I edited some of the photos for this post on Gimp and there isn't much difference!
