Meet the Artist November 2016

Hello everyone~ <3 I'm sitting here with my s'mores flavored coffee and thought I would update on here. I have been feeling really wonderful, lately. I think last week hit me a bit harder than I expected it to and it's taken some time to get out of a bit of a funk that I wasn't even aware I was in. I wasn't drawing and I was a bit stuck. This past Summer was really great because I was able to start drawing regularly again (or as regularly as I could get?) but then the school year started and I had to focus more on work and had to stop for a while. Now with the breaks coming up I'm able to jump back on it! I was working on an assignment for my class as an example and something really simple turned into a little bigger and I really love the end result. I've been working more on fleshing out my style and truly finding it.

The cold weather is finally starting to come around and it has been really wonderful <3 Though when I get home all I want to do is crawl under the covers on our bed and just sleep. I've been growing out of my comfort zone and doing things I never thought I would do! I think it's good to be able to do that every once in a while. We went to a Korean Spa in Fort Lee with some friends and we had a really lovely time not fretting about our insecurities and just going along with everything. I am wearing things I feel more comfortable with and more suited to what I want my style to be and not just safe options like jeans and a t-shirt. I am working on myself little by little and making changes to my lifestyle and way of thinking and it has been liberating.

Along with becoming free of these insecure thoughts, I have been more willing to sit down and just draw. I think I've reached a point where I just don't care what people could potentially think about my work (in a negative light) and just want to put my work out there. The experiments, the style practices, and the random sketches and doodles that I seem to just be pouring out lately. I had been beating myself up about how little drawing I've been doing but then I take a look at the Sketchbook 2016 page I have set up here and I see that it's just not true. I think this has been the most active year in years and I can't properly explain how happy that makes me.

We are still setting everything up in the house and I have officially made the Art Room my personal project. It is technically for both of us to use but Josh is letting me set it up entirely how I want! So obviously it is like... covered in pink and frills. No art prints on the walls yet but I want to buy frames for the ones I want to put up and start the inspiration wall. I'm thinking about painting the walls and have a few pieces of furniture in mind for the space (like I really want to replace that make-shift drawer shelf thing pictured above with an actual dresser that will hold all our art supplies). I think this room will always be a work in progress but I think that's a good thing. We recently moved up my computer and desk up here and broke up our office downstairs because I just wasn't going in there. I'm more comfortable sitting on my computer in this room and drawing. I have a different table and space with a window right in front of it for watercolor, painting and bigger projects. I want this room to be everything I dreamed of having in an office since I started drawing and I thin it's shaping up nicely! I'll keep putting up progress pictures as it continues to evolve!
