***What's in my Bag 2013***

I've been really excited to make this post for a while! I LOVE watching beauty gurus on youtube show their purse contents and I like doing them every once in while, too.

I got my purse at Aldo a few weeks ago. I've been on the lookout for a nice leather purse since I've gotten back. I'm always on the prowl for a nice bag. When I saw this one, I fell in love! I have no trouble finding anything in here. My problem is that I love big purses because I love taking a lot of things around with me. Lately I have some essentials that i stick to and don't feel the need to carry a whole lot of things with me so I was in need of a smaller purse.

I found this beauty at Bed Bath and Body Works. I love anything fox related. I don't use hand sanitizer but when I saw this I knew I had to find a reason to XD After smelling the ones they had I decided on Sweet Clementine. I love how sweet it smells and it was one of the few scents that didn't make me want to eat my hand.

This is my wallet and my cellphone! These two go in the front pocket of the purse so they're easily accessible. My wallet is big enough to carry my car keys, a lip balm and my phone. Sometimes I need to step out of the house to do tiny things like grocery shopping or go to the pharmacy and I don't need to bring my whole purse with me, so I take out my wallet and put my phone in it and just take that with me. Originally this was an idea I thought up of so I had an excuse to buy such a pretty wallet ;P But I love this system, there isn't as much of a hassle to leave the house anymore!

My beautiful phone <333 I change cases on it so often XD One of them has a stand and I've been with it for about a month and it's one of my favorites, but I recently found this case and um how could I not, are you seeing this? The inside is my favorite shade of pink and the outside IS RILAKKUMA. The only thing I don't like is that I don't have a stand anymore :( But my phone looks bangin' so it's all good. The wallpaper on my phone is done by Jo.

Ok so I'm a bit of an organization freak and I use a lot of cases in my purse. Each one has a purpose and is really cute. My strawberry case holds my change, mostly quarters for meters and stuff. Josh got it for me in Granada <3

My unicorn case (made by Celesse and here it is!) holds my 3DSXL which I've named Bobba. I play two games on her: Paper Mario and Animal Crossing! I play Animal Crossing every day and I'm kinda stuck on Paper Mario.

This little wallet is from Vera Bradley and holds my music devices. I have a Sansa Clip in purple and an iPod 4th gen. Once my iPod kicks the bucket (which I suspect is soon, none of my Apple products have lasted longer than 3 years) I'm going to look into a different mp3 device. I loved my iPod in Spain because I had a portable wifi device, but now that I'm home I have my smartphone and don't need the wifi on it anymore. So I want to get an mp3 player that just stores and plays my music. I don't need it for any other reason. That little Wonder Woman was given to me by Josh when we went to Six Flags last year. He said she looked like me .////. Also I keep my charging cables in here sometimes if I know I'm going somewhere for a long time.

My makeup bag! I got my makeup bag here and it was Made by Bing! I think I need a bigger makeup bag. I'm getting more into makeup and like to have more things on me when I go out. I just discovered Oil absorbing sheets and ughhhhhh I love them! I didn't even know something like this existed. BUT IT DOES AND IT'S WONDERFUL. My skin gets dry in winter and oily in summer :L I have like four different lip balms, 3 smells to choose from, two lotions (one isn't shown here), hair ties and Motrin if I ever need it. I used to carry around an entire bottle of Motrin with me and I just want to express how bad of an idea this was. I don't think anyone should ever carry entire bottles of pain killers with them. I think it makes you more likely to take them. These little packs are great because you can keep one or two on you if you need it and you refill as you see fit. Plus it keeps people from stealing your pain killers.

I carry a tiny pencil case with me and a few pens and pencils. I used to carry A LOT more but my bag would get so heavy it pained me to take it anywhere. So now I only take a few around. I keep my planner with me as well as a notebook to write or draw in. I don't carry a sketchbook with me anymore because honestly, I almost never draw outside my house anymore. It just adds tot he weight of my purse and it's annoying. If I know I'm going somewhere I'll have time to draw I'll take it with me, but otherwise, no.

What's in my bag 11.jpg

The last few items I have with me at all times are my sunglasses, gum, my ultra moisturizing lotion and something to read. Right now I'm reading Inma's 3x1, a Spanish manga she published a while back. I finally have all the volumes and want to finish reading the series <3 She's one of my favorite artists. Something not pictured that I carry with me sometimes is my camera which I used to take these pictures. I don't take it out with me often because my phone has such a great camera, but I do if I know I'm going to be taking pictures for the blog so they come out in really nice quality!

***Confessions of a Blogger 2013***

SAM_4870.jpg

Hello everyone! I saw this tag floating around and thought I would give a go at it :) Also it might help people get a better idea of who I am (and I love memes I don't think I do them enough)

When did you start your blog?
I started my blog in November of 2012! I think I first intended it to be a sketchblog where I could post all my drawings and art ramblings but then it grew to be a lot more than that because of all the lovely blogs I discovered and grew to love.

Have you had any past online presence before (Other blog, YouTube)?
I think I've had an online presence since I was 14. I started a DeviantArt account to display my art (which all revolved around Sonic the Hedgehog btw.) and I also had a livejournal that i put all my embarrassing day-to-day items. Ever since then I've been on and off about updating and putting myself out there. For a while I just did livejournal and I loved making friends on there, but everyone then migrated to tumblr so I kinda followed suit.

Why did you start a blog?
Like I said, I wanted it to be like a sketchblog but I found such interesting posts and people on blogs that I wanted to be like that, too. I've always loved writing but I'm always shy about sharing it. I'm trying to break out of my shell so I can

When did you become serious about starting a blog?
Ummmm I think when I found Xiaxue and Zoella and started getting really addicted I was like "I want to do this, too. Like, really do this." So I started posting my travel log entries and my day-to-day things because sometimes Bedmar got really boring. When we were travelling it was almost impossible to update so I didn't, but while I was working and during the week there wasn't much to do, so I spent more time editing photos and writing blog entries!

What was your first post?
My first post was a picture of Vixena I did traditionally. I still love that picture. Here's my first post!

What has been your biggest challenge about blogging?
Definitely feeling like I'm not reaching out enough :/ I see blogs that get a lot of exposure for posting beauty reviews and outfit posts, and that's not really my thing so I don't do it. But doing my own thing I don't get much exposure so... it's a bit frustrating. I don't want blogging to become a chore for me, ever. It never has been, and I feel comfortable posting what I do! I hope that it reaches people that can feel inspired by what I write and do and want to do some of the stuff I do, too.

Where do you see your blog in one year?
I still want to be blogging, but I feel like a year isn't really a long time. So I'll probably still be doing what I do now and hopefully still be enjoying it.

What is the most rewarding thing to you about blogging?
I really like putting myself out there. My opinion, my photos, my art and some personal things. I like to believe that some people find what I post inspiring and want to become more creative in their life as well. I love comments and I love it when people tell me they liked my posts <3

What is the most discouraging thing that happens to you?
Same as above, when I feel like no one is reading my posts I feel sad. But that lasts for maybe a day and then I'm back to doing what I love! That's why I think it's important to love what you do. Sometimes you're going to be the only one to tell yourself that it's ok to do something JUST because you love it. It doesn't matter if it's super popular, gets a lot of views or gets noticed. If you love doing it, then you're just going to keep doing it. Sometimes we have to be a little selfish ;)

What’s your lasting inspiration or motivation?
I hope that one day I meet someone who recognizes me and tells me that I've inspired them with what I write, post or draw. My biggest inspiration is when people tell me these things, I feel like I'm on top of the world!

***Art Meme 2013***

Art meme 2013

I did this art meme back in 2013. I would like to do it again because some answers have changed but not many. Maybe I'll wait another year.

1. When did you get into art?

I got into art when I was around 12 years old. I was 12 when I started drawing Sailor Moon fancharacters

CIMG1698.JPG

because I got my hands on the Stars manga in Borders. When I went to Bolivia a few months later, I found a magazine with an advertisement for Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for the Gamecube. I wanted to practice drawing things other than pretty princesses so I drew him. And then I got kind of hooked, so when I turned 13 in August, I didn't want to draw anything except Sonic and his friends for about... 5 or 6 years.

2. What art-related sites have you ever signed up for?

I've signed up for deviantart and Pixiv since I started posting my art online, but I've stopped using those entirely. I post my art on my art blog and I love this method more than anything I've one before. It's simple, gives the best quality and I love how I can customize the way my art is displayed! I've blogged and written personal entries on Livejournal and tumblr!

3. Show us your oldest piece of art you have on hand.

There's this other one with my first OC (which is just Sonic with lighter blue fur and eye lashes.) and some of the Sonic girls, but I can't find it! So here's E-Mouse, a mouse band I made when I found out that I could speed up songs on Adobe Premiere.

4. What defines your artistic style?

I think right now, my style has a lot of frills, girl-y things, delicate things, and some bad-ass females. My girls aren't usually just thin, they have some curves (though they're still skinny? idk.) But I don't think anything should "define" anyone. I think really great artists don't tell themselves, "NO I NEVER DRAW THING." and just kind of go for everything. I think I'm someone that just likes to draw what she likes, whatever that may be at that moment.

5. Do you practice other styles/have you tried other styles in the past?

I don't think so? I do find inspiration in different artists over time, and I think that may show a little in my art, but I'd like to think that my art is original. When I sit down to draw, I usually just have my music and my art supplies in front of me.

6. What levels of artistic education have you had?

I took an AP art class in highschool. I didn't have to take any basics because my teacher felt that I would be ok if I just went into the class, but I wish I had. Now that I'm older I appreciate learning the basics, but I think it would have been wasted on me at that age. When I was 17, all I cared about was drawing what I wanted and had no interest in learning from anyone except from my art idols. I think I'm still a little like that, but I would really like to take a fundamental class now.

I took Advanced Graphic Design at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia when I was 16. I took a Digital Media class when I was 17. I took a drawing class at PennState Abington when I was 18.

I'm mostly self taught. I just love practicing when I have free time (or when I'm bored in class >.>)

7. Show us at least one picture you drew or sketched recently that you did not put on a public site.

drink some.jpg

This is going to get it's own post soon. This is from the latest batch of sketches from my sketchbook that I need to upload!

8. What is your favorite piece that you have done?

Oh, this is tough.

Out of every single piece that I've done in the past, this has got to be my favorite. I spent a lot of time on it, and I love the coloring on it. Plus, it was my first digital piece that I felt looked professional enough to look official for one of my own original characters. I did this in 2011, and I think I can do better now, but I have yet to do something like this since then. I really love this one.

9. What is your least favorite piece that you have done?

I picked one that a lot of people seem to like but like... I don't get it. This piece got a lot of attention over a lot of other things I submitted on dA, but to me it's just a scrap. I feel bad that I submitted it as an actual piece and didn't treat it like a scrap.

10. What do you like most about your art?

I like how girl-y it is. Well, to me it's girl-y. Haha how do I explain this? Josh and I like to draw together a good amount, and his style is very manly. Like, super muscles and chins and MANLY MEN. I think my style is more delicate and pretty. I like how it's sketchy when it needs to be and clean when it needs to be. I like my digital coloring and I love my traditional coloring. I'm very proud of my art <3

11. What do you like least about your art?

I really hate how my eyes looks sometimes. Like, I can't get the character to look in the right direction XD Or sometimes I really mess up and they look cross eyed. I don't like how sometimes I can make something that took me hours look so simple and messy. I don't like that sometimes I can make my characters look like they have too much space between their eyes  (o   _   o)

12. Have you ever considered taking commissions?

I am not currently taking commissions.

13. Are you looking to pursue a career in art?

I would like to do something on the side. I'm passionate about pursuing Bilingual Special Education and I'm looking forward to getting my Master's in it when I go back to the States. I do also want to get my Master's in Illustration, but I don't think I'll be doing that for a while.

All I know is that whenever I have business card printed, they will always say Deanna Martinez: Illustrator.

14. What do you like drawing the most?

I love drawing sentimental pictures to really sad songs. I also like drawing really pretty girls doing simple things, like drinking coffee or going on a walk. I love posing my characters, too! Something I find interesting is that I had way more poses to draw my characters in when I drew my anthros back in the day. Humans are hard to pose :/

15. What do you like drawing the least?

I hate drawing backgrounds, YUCK. Since I've gotten better at drawing males, I don't mind drawing them too much. Sometimes I even prefer drawing them more than girls... if the mood strikes.

16. Do you draw more fanart or original art? If fanart, what fandom do you draw the most of?

I definitely draw more original art. Through the years, I've either only done strictly fanart or original art. The fandoms I used to draw most of was:

Sonic the Hedgehog

Yu-Gi-Oh

Professor Layton

Layton18C.jpg

and South Park

(um. My only straight ship was Sonic the Hedgehog what does this say about me)

17. What would you absolutely refuse to draw?

Gundam. Why.

18. What is your purpose for drawing?

I draw because I love doing it. No one pressures me to do it, no one dictates what I draw and I find it therapeutic. It's the one thing that I can feel extreme pride in and also feel very down about it. A roller coaster I love to be on.

19. What medium/program do you use the most in your art?

For the past two years I've been using digital mediums more, like Adobe Photoshop and Painttool Sai and I would only use my tablet when drawing pictures. Lately I've been using traditional media like Copic markers and watercolor! I like to work with both.

20. How would you rank your art? (poor, mediocre, good, etc.)

I rank it pretty highly. I've been drawing for almost ten years (this year makes it ten, woah.) and I think I've been going at a pace I'm comfortable with. In no way is it a quick one, but it has been a really enjoyable one. I've met people who have been inspired by my art and my methods, and hearing that I inspire anyone is one of my biggest accomplishments in my life. I don't think I'm the best, but I don't think I'm bad, either.

21. Do you believe there is such thing as “bad art?”

I think that if you don't put time or passion into your pieces, it can be pretty bad. I think it's bad if a person only does it for attention or to get fame or money. I don't understand these methods.

22. List at least one of your “artspirations.”

Uh, one? Jo. (She is also my life-speration.)

23. What do you think you could stand to improve on?

Fundamentals. Like, drawing more things like feet, hands, eyes, etc. I don't want a realistic style, but I think it's good to practice realism to improve your own art, so you have more skills to work with and incorporate into your own pieces!

24. Do you have a shameful art past? (recolour sprite comics, tracing art, etc.)

Nope. The only shameful thing about my art past are things like this:

Mixing my OC with official characters e_e
